At this point I would say to her. “why don’t you hold your bag so the old man or some other person can take a seat. If another person sitting next to you on your commute is a bother then get a car.”
Probably because I am not in love with people sitting on top of me I walk, bike or drive first or I take the subway off peak hours. But I do speak up (have even gotten out of my car & yelled at tailgaters) and I do offer my seat to preggos, the elderly and people with little children.
