  5. Kristin says:

Ok, so, I moved here from Wisconsin 6 months ago and I’m still getting the hang of the subway etiquette. Just a quick question- What if the train is very empty? Do the same rules still apply? I always make sure to take up minimal space if/when it fills up obviously, but in some of these pictures it seems like they’re taking up space because they can (and I’ve done the same many times). Also, if I get on a crowded train, I have no problem asking said space-hoggers to move whatever items are blocking the seat I want. I mean, at least I ask nicely instead of just sitting right down on their shit and calling it a day. Right?

  6. EddieGoing says:

I understand where you’re coming from and the need to take up extra space or lean on a pole when the train is next-to-empty or completely empty. However, in my many years of taking the subway, I find that people who decide to do that are STILL less likely to move their stuff until it becomes the only seat available – and even then, it’s usually done with attitude. There are definitely exceptions to the rule (maybe people like yourself) – but, this is NYC, a very fast-paced city…for someone to feel entitled to take an extra seat, ultimately forcing me to ask to sit there, in my opinion, is VERY rude. We shouldn’t have to ask people to move out of the way or to move their belongings. It’s a common sense thing which many people in this city lack.

I also think that the tone of this blog comes off as a very angry new yorker – I am actually quite the opposite. I take notice of every “violation” on the subway and I document it.

Thanks for visiting the blog and for your comment!

  7. Lara says:

Nothing makes me cringe more than people who clip their nails on the subway/subway platform!!!

  8. cuz says:

eddddddddddee you knoww mee.. u dont live in nyc.. and i go to yaa housee sillyz

  9. Alli says:

Eddie!!! I paint my nails on the ferry sometimes! You see.. I am always running late, and I hate not having polish on my nails when I go out. If I put it on at home I would show up 2 hours late instead of a half hour! Don’t hate on the polishers.. but I would not go as far as clipping.. that leaves behind body parts.. EW GROSS!

    • Simon says:

      To Alli —

Everyone is busy, not just you. Get up earlier in the morning, problem solved. Till then, it’s not ok to polish on the subway/ferry/public.
